A yummy and hearty french load bread that's crusty! YUM-O (according to Rachael Ray). This loaf is perfect for the upcoming holidays because its an all around versatile loaf, great with gravies! This is so easy to make so check it out!
Servings: Makes 2 small loaves or one huge loaf
1 cup warm water
1/2 tablespoon yeast
1/2 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 tablespoon sugar
5 cups bread flour
Step 1: Add the yeast in warm water, along with the sugar! Water 5 minutes for it to foam up!
Step 2: For now, add only 3 cups of the flour, salt, and oil, and mix it until a paste forms
Step 3: Add the remaining cups of flour and knead it until elastic (about 10 minutes)
Step 4: Oil up a bowl and put your bread in a bowl and let rise for an hour or until it doubles its size!
Step 5: Sprinkle a cookie sheet with some cornmeal (optional, really, but I find it to be crumblier as a french loaf!)
Step 6: After your dough has doubled its size, shape it however you want and let it RE-RISE again until doubled! Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes and you're done!
